Dear Mr. Graham:

The deportation of Alvaro Orozco must be stopped immediately. To deport Alvaro at this stage in his life, and after everything he has been through to stay in Canada, and try to build a life for himself, would be an extreme miscarriage of justice, and out of keeping with Canada’s reputation as a compassionate country.

Alvaro fled his country at the age of 12 and traveled on foot for many days at a time, sustained only by the charity of villagers and open door churches in his determination to find a life free of physical abuse and fear for his life based on his sexual orientation.

Alvaro has been a model citizen since his arrival in Canada. He is asking only to be allowed to live freely as a young gay man. He wants to work and go to school and make a contribution to the community.

Alvaro has traveled alone and lived in fear since he was 12 years old. It would be a travesty for him to be returned to Nicaragua where there is an existing law against gay life, where his own life was threatened if he identified as gay and where his life was constantly at risk from violence until the day he left home.

I urge you to use your considerable influence to urge the Minister of Immigration to stay the deportation order immediately.

Sincerely

(please inter your name here)
